Who are we looking for?

The Soda engineering environment

At Soda, we get in touch with many data teams at our clients. So we are a great place to get a broad overview of how modern organizations work with data. We operate both public and private cloud deployments, all in using a CI/CD model with tools like Terraform and cloud technologies (AWS, GCP and Azure). A big part of our software is open source so you’re encouraged to participate in our community efforts. We use AI/ML to automate monitoring, Java and Python on the backend and Angular on the frontend. We encounter all modern data technologies like SQL, Snowflake, dbt, Spark, Kafka, and Airflow.

As senior data engineer, you'll be responsible for the team that builds reliable data pipelines for data engineers. We expect you to show leadership and partner effectively with our engineering team to develop better metrics and insights. Together with Soda Management, you’ll define the Soda product strategy for data engineers. You’re able to build initial implementations yourself and quickly build up a team. You'll drive conversations with peer lead data engineers and architects at worldwide brand names.

You are an engineer with a strong overview and background in most of the following technologies & concepts:

• SQL
• Python, Scala
• AWS Athena, Snowflake, AWS Redshift, GCP BigQuery
• Delta lake
• Spark (Databricks, EMR)
• Kafka, Beam
• Airflow & other orchestration tools
• Kubernetes
  

Your main responsibilities will be to:

• Potentially lead a Soda open source project
• Build features, integrations or a whole project of our Soda data monitoring platform
• Interact with the data engineering teams at customers
• Distill the common requirements and define the product strategy for data engineers
• Build and lead a team of data and software engineers
• Build developer relationships with members of the Soda community
• Identify key influencers in the data community, engage and build up relationships
• Become a respected voice in the data engineering community

What experience should you have?

• Excellent knowledge of the data engineering landscape
• A profound background in cloud native data technologies
• Experience in leading and coaching a data engineering team
• Hands-on experience from your architectural contributions in at least 3 different data engineering projects
• Experience in leading open source projects is a plus
• Eagerness to share your skills with the team
• Eagerness to learn new skills in both technology and soft skills
